SEC Football: Impressions from Around the Conference: Week 7

Another fantastic week of SEC Football is behind us. Below you will find our impressions from this week’s games. There were several intriguing matchups. Be sure to share your own impressions of them in the comments below. Off we go!

Alabama:

The Tide defense looked dominant. The pass rush was incredible and the secondary benefited tremendously.

Eddie Jackson is a silky-smooth punt returner.

Jalen Hurts still has a lot of room to improve in the passing game, but he is a dynamic runner.

Calvin Ridley

had two uncharacteristic drops. That’ll be something to keep an eye on moving forward.

Arkansas:

Rawleigh Williams finally found some room to run. He looked very good.
Austin Allen, aside from one interception, was masterful. In terms of passing, he outperformed Chad Kelly.
The Hog defense wasn’t great, but they did enough, holding an explosive Ole Miss offense to just 30 points on the night.

Auburn:

The Tigers had a bye week this week.

Florida:

Luke Del Rio looked atrocious, throwing three interceptions. He will have to play better if Florida wants to win the SEC East.
Cornerbacks Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson are as good as it gets in college football. Each scored a touchdown against Missouri.
Lamichal Perine and Jordan Scarlett both looked good carrying the football.

Georgia:

The running game had no room to work. Vanderbilt stacked the box all day.
Jacob Eason actually played pretty well, but the Bulldogs couldn’t finish drives.
Rodrigo Blankenship looks to have definitively won the starting job at kicker.
The defense was solid for most of the game.

Kentucky:

The Wildcats had a bye week this week.

LSU:

It was a tale of two halves for LSU. They looked sluggish in the first but dominant in the second.
Malachi Dupre finally showed up and had a big game.
Derrius Guice was as explosive as always.
Danny Etling played well.

Mississippi State:

The Bulldog defense played well.
The Bulldog offense not so much.
Nick Fitzgerald had a rough day through the air, but he did score two touchdowns on the ground.

Missouri:

Drew Lock and the passing game got completely demolished by the stingy Gator secondary.
The defense played well against the pass but got gashed by the running game.
Freshman running back Damarea Crockett showed that he is going to be a good one.

Ole Miss:

Chad Kelly had an uncharacteristically bad night through the air, but he did work on the ground.
The Ole Miss defense played extremely poorly against the run.
Evan Ingram played well as always.

South Carolina:

The Gamecocks had a bye week this week.

Tennessee:

The Volunteer offensive line got completely dominated by Alabama. This caused problems in both the running and passing games.

The Volunteer defense was routinely gashed by the Alabama rushing attack.
Evan Berry is a dangerous kick returner. Every time he touched it he looked like he might be about to go the distance.

Texas A&M:

The Aggies had a bye week this week.

Vanderbilt:

The Vanderbilt defense played incredibly. Zach Cunningham is going to play in the NFL.

Darrius Sims is a great kick returner. He set up Vanderbilt’s first touchdown.

The Vanderbilt offense never really got going, but it didn’t matter as they gutted out a tough win on the road.
