SEC football teams are entering into conference play, and some upsets are going to throw things into early-season chaos.

The SEC football schedule now enters full conference play, and some early-season upsets may change the balance of the conference for the rest of the season, with one long winning streak possibly coming to an end.

This week is an open date for the Ole Miss Rebels.

For the season, my SEC football picks are 26-10 against the spread according to odds on SportsBookReview.com

I’m still reeling about Texas A&M covering that 24 points against Louisiana. What were you doing, Cajuns? Hopefully this week’s underdog pick will play a full four quarters of football

SEC Football Dog of the Week

This week’s underdog upset has the potential to not only be a spread-beating surprise, but also an outright win for the underdog.

Syracuse Orange at LSU Tigers (-21.5)
7:00 pm – Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, La.

Normally I’d take just about any spread for a top SEC team over Syracuse, but this is not your typical Syracuse team, and LSU may have more problems than many thought at the beginning of the year.

More from Southbound and Down

Dino Babers runs an up-tempo offense with the Orange, which could give LSU some problems on defense (go watch the film of last week’s debacle against Mississippi State). The Tigers will want to run the ball and keep Syracuse off the field, the problem is, how healthy is Derrius Guice?

Guice was initially ruled out of this game after posting (and then almost immediately taking down) a rather suspect photo of he and his mom in front of a shiny new ride on Instagram, but now Ed Orgeron has doubled down and said Guice will play.

The Tigers big run threat has been dealing with some nagging injuries, and may not factor in as much as many think.

I can’t see LSU running away with this game, so take Syracuse to cover the 21.5 points, and don’t be surprised if they pull the upset of the week in the nation.

SEC Football Blowout of the Week.

There are still some creampuffs left on the early SEC schedule, so blowouts are still going to happen.

UMass Minutemen at Tennessee Volunteers (-28.5)
12:00 pm – Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, Tn.

Pretty simple formula in this game.

UMass is not good. The 0-4 Minutemen even managed to lose to Old Dominion.

Tennessee is going to be angry. The literal last-second loss to Florida probably had red-faced Butch Jones almost taking back his “Champions of Life” rings from any team members who had them.

It may be close early, but by the time halftime comes rolling around, the Vols will be firmly in control and will steamroll the Minutemen in the second half.

Vols cover, and then some.
