Florida Football finished the 2019 class with a bang and now look to do the same for 2020. The Gators are already off to a quick start, but will it last?

Dan Mullen heads into year two at Florida and is already off to a hot start on the recruiting trail. He is quickly putting Florida football back on the map where it was ten years ago.

In his first full class as the head coach for the Gators, Mullen raked in a top-10 recruiting class. The Gators ranked as the No. 9 team in the country on 247Sports.

Florida Football looks to continue that success in 2020 and currently rank in the 247Sports Composite rankings as the No. 6 team in the country and the No. 3 in the SEC.

Currently, the Gators have seven total commitments. Florida has six 4-stars and one 3-star.

More from Southbound and Down

Most recently Florida added 4-star wide receiver Jeremiah Johnson on March 20 when he chose the Gators.

Florida Racks up at WR

The Gators picked up two huge 2020 wide receivers. Leonard Manuel and  Johnson are two top wideouts that a lot of other SEC schools wanted.

Manuel committed to the Gators over Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, and Auburn back on January 14. The four-star is 6-4 and 200 pounds.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he ranks as the No. 47 overall player, the No. 10 WR and the No. 6 player in Florida.

He is a tall big-bodied receiver that can go up and catch those jump balls. Manuel has excellent speed and will likely end up a five-star prospect by the time he signs his letter of intent. He’s athletic and forces his defenders to be on their toes at all time.

As for Johnson, he is a Georgia bred kid that is up and coming on the scene. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he ranks as the No. 68 WR and the No. 33 player in Georgia. However, by the end of his senior year, I could see him being in the top-20 in his position and Georgia.

Johnson is 6-7 and 200 pounds. He is a massive mismatch for every defense in the SEC, and once he learns how to control his long limbs, he could be a dangerous weapon for the Gators.

He only has six offers right now, but I expect that to change this camp season and the more folks see what he brings to the table. Johnson’s a dark horse for me, and if more teams offer, he could reopen it and look elsewhere. For now, though he is a Gator and Florida got a sleeper in Johnson.

Gators Continue to Recruit well

We all know how good of a recruiter head coach Dan Mullen is, and with him being in Florida, he will get his guys. With spring ball happening now expect a lot of prospects to visit and him sell the Gator program.

It’ll be interesting to see where the 2020 class is for the Gators in a month or so. This class could shock the SEC and college football, but it is early in the process. There is a long way to go to Feb. 2020.
