SEC Heisman Hopefuls: The Shake Up

The empire strikes back.  No, you didn’t accidentally click a link that breaks down the 37 hidden meanings behind the Star Wars film.  It just seems fitting to borrow the movie title to describe what the Alabama Crimson Tide just did to the nation and what Derrick Henry and company just did to the Heisman hopes of one Leonard Fournette.

If you want me to get on here and denounce Leonard Fournette as “overrated” then you need to go to a Big 10* or PAC-12 website. I’m sure they are clamoring to tell you that Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliot and Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey are now leading the way in the Heisman race.  The two of them may be getting invites to the Heisman award ceremony, but neither of them will be dancing with Johnny Manziel in 2016 Nissan’s Heisman House commercials.

No, I believe the frontrunners for the Heisman still belong in the SEC, but has the power shifted?  Some are quick to deem Fournette’s Heisman campaign done, but in the famous word’s of ESPN’s Lee Corso:  “Not so fast my friend.”  Let’s take a look at the top 3 Heisman Hopefuls representing the SEC.
