While the Crimson Tide are no stranger to landing some of the state’s top prospects in recent years, rival Auburn on the other hand has only landed one five-star from the state of Alabama since landing four combined between 2013 and 2014 (Bo Nix in 2019).

Looking at the Tigers current 2023 class as well, Auburn currently holds an SEC Football low of only two total commits, one of which comes from in-state lineman Bradyn Joiner. Even despite that though, the Tigers appear to be building momentum on the recruiting trail entering year two under head coach Bryan Harsin, with that number bound to rise at some point.

If Mitchell were to commit to the Tigers as well, the five-star would become one of, if not the, highest-rated defensive back recruits to commit to Auburn in recent memory, and would be a favorite to start on the Plains from day one. The Tigers have also had success developing players at the cornerback position as well, even putting two players in the first two rounds of the NFL Draft in two of the last three years (Noah Igbinoghene in 2020, Roger McCreary in 2022).

Should the Tigers land the talented in-state prospect, there is no denying how big of a recruiting win it would be for Auburn, one that would undoubtedly be the biggest of the Harsin era.
