If you are playing in the first couple of rounds in a conference tournament, chances are you aren’t looking at a sure bet of getting into the NCAA Tournament. In fact, for many of the early round teams, a conference tournament miracle is the only possible way into the Big Dance.
In the SEC, the first two rounds are filled with some teams who had tough luck in 2015, some of them who — like Missouri — had some bigger expectations on the season.
Awaiting these lower seeds are possible games with teams like Texas A&M, Georgia, Arkansas, LSU and of course, No. 1 and undefeated Kentucky.
Seems like a poor prize for making it through a couple of rounds.
Kentucky and Arkansas are the two favorites to win the SEC Tournament this year, according to Bovada, with the Wildcats coming in as 1-4 favorites to win the tourney, and Arkansas following with 10-1 odds.
In looking at the first two rounds, it’s time to make some picks as to who could emerge to challenge one of the frontrunners who gained a double-bye in the tournament. Can any of these teams eventually move on to the semifinals and finals? We’ll examine that later in the week.
