Three SEC basketball teams are in the Elite 8. No, do not adjust your screens, it’s true.

After last night’s games, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida are three of the final eight teams remaining in the NCAA Tournament.

If someone were to tell you that three SEC teams were in the Final Four of the College Football Playoff, while improbable, you probably wouldn’t blink an eye. The SEC is best college football conference in America. After all, the very first CFP rankings that came out in 2014 had just that.

Those rankings had Mississippi State no. 1, Florida State at no. 2, Auburn at no. 3, and Ole Miss at no. 4. Even Alabama was no. 6, giving the SEC four of the top six teams.

But we’re talking about basketball.

Georgia was actually the only team in the SEC to play each of these teams twice in the regular season, and they actually played Kentucky a third time in the SEC Tournament.

South Carolina won each of the matchups against the Bulldogs by an average of 4 points. Florida won both of their matchups with Georgia by an average of 8 points, with one of the wins coming in overtime. And Kentucky won their three matchups with Georgia by an average of 7.7 points, with one of their wins also coming in overtime.
