Today on the Southbound and Down College Football Countdown, we go back to one of the most exciting plays from 2016.

There are thousands of plays that occur over the course of the college football season, but they are not all created equal. Some plays convert first downs, and some lose yardage. But then there are others that have a drastic impact on not only the game, but on the conference landscape as a whole.

And that leads us to no. 92 in the College Football Countdown.

92

Texas A&M’s Trevor Knight’s 92-yard touchdown pass to Josh Reynolds against Arkansas in 2016.

Previous: No. 93

Next: No. 91

On Sept. 24, Texas A&M played Arkansas in “Jerry World” in Arlington, Tex. Each team entered this game at 3-0. The Aggies entered this contest as the no. 10 team in college football, while the Razorbacks were no. 17.

After being tied at 17 at the half, the Aggies got the ball to open up the third quarter. That drive ended in a fumble and Arkansas took over possession.

The Razorbacks put together a 19-play, 89-yard drive that took 9:55 of game clock. But that wasn’t enough, because the Aggies stoned them on four straight runs from inside the 2-yard line to preserve the tie and take over on downs.

Then it happened.

Two plays later Trevor Knight hit Josh Reynolds down the right sideline. Reynolds caught it in stride at midfield, broke a tackle, and took it 92 yards for a touchdown, putting Texas A&M up 24-17 late in the third.

Texas A&M ran away with the game after that and won 45-24 to move to 4-0 on the season. The Aggies started 7-1 last season and got as high as no. 6 in the AP poll before losing four of their final five games to close out the season.

Unfortunately for the Aggies, neither Knight or Reynolds will be back this season, so they’re going to have to find a new quarterback and deep threat to stretch opposing defenses in 2017.
