Not only should Urban Meyer be fired, enough facts about Zach Smith were known for Urban Meyer to never have been hired by Ohio State.

We woke last week savoring the first medium rare taste of countdown to college football.

By Friday, Urban Meyer and Zach Smith had us tasting vomit in our mouth.

Urban Meyer was notorious for protecting game changing talents from off the field indiscretions while at Florida. Now we find he shielded a staff member from the consequences of domestic abuse.

Facts of the case

While on Urban Meyer’s Florida staff, Zach Smith was arrested for “aggravated battery of a pregnant female.”  Meyer not only failed by retaining Smith in 2009 after learning of the domestic abuse incident , but by hiring him a second time when he became the Ohio State head coach.

This fail alone should have disqualified Meyer as even a candidate for a head coaching position.

Meyer then failed again, retaining Smith after learning of at least one other domestic abuse incident.

The short version is that Urban Meyer shielded, rehired and shielded again a domestic abuser. Urban Meyer and anyone who failed to vet Urban Meyer and the staff he recommended should be fired.
