  • Vanderbilt (19-12, 9-9 SEC) is one of the middle seed teams actually given good odds to win the tournament. They have some big time scorers, but have had some injury setbacks this season. The Commodores shoot high-percentage shots, and play pretty good defense, which has kept them in a lot of games this season.

The Volunteers (15-15, 7-11 SEC) have the potential to be a dangerous team, but saw their season unravel, winning only two games from Feb. 5 to the end of the season. However one of those two wins was a 76-73 overtime win against Vanderbilt.

Still have to give this one to Vandy. They’re just a better team and playing better basketball right now. But, a rivalry game can bring strange results.

Second Rounds, Game 6 – No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels vs. Game 2 Winner

The Rebels (20-11, 11-7 SEC) are a hard team to figure. The end of January through mid-Feburary it looked like Ole Miss might be making a run at the top teams in the conference. But then they finished the season losing four out of their last seven games, including a season-ending loss to Vanderbilt at home.

We picked South Carolina to come out of game 2 as the winner, and if that’s the case, then it could be a matchup nightmare for the Rebels.

Ole Miss beat the Gamecocks 65-49 in a Jan. 10 meeting in Oxford, but this is a much different Gamecocks team right now, playing with a lot of confidence, especially on defense.

It would be close, but still have to lean towards the Rebels.
