The 2015 recruiting season just came to a close in February, but as any coach will tell you, recruiting never…ever…ends.
2016 commits were coming across the desks of SEC coaches even during National Signing Day for the 2015 class, and don’t think that a single one of those commits went unnoticed by their school.
According to the 247 Sports current composite rankings, the SEC has five teams — Ole Miss, Kentucky, LSU, Georgia, Mississippi State — ranked in the Top 10 for 2016, more than any other single conference. Now of course, it’s still early and things can change in a hurry, but the SEC is off to a running start.
Georgia boasts the No. 1 player in the nation with their hard commit from quarterback Jacob Eason (Lake Stevens HS – Lake Stevens, Wa.) to headline their class. Ole Miss has a commitment from the No. 3 quarterback in the nation, Shea Patterson (Calvary Baptist Academy – Shreveport, La.), while rival Mississippi State brags the No. 2 JUCO transfer in the nation, offensive tackle Tommy Champion (Copiah-Lincoln C.C. -Wesson, MS).
The Kentucky Wildcats landed a big prize in the No. 1 center in the nation, Drake Jackson (Woodford County – Versailles, Ky.) to start them on the way to their third straight excellent recruiting class by head coach Mark Stoops.
Here’s the breakdown of Top 25 recruiting classes so far by conference:
SEC – 9 (Ole Miss, Kentucky, LSU, Georgia Mississippi State, Auburn, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Alabama)
ACC – 7 (Miami, FSU, Clemson, Louisville, VaTech, Duke, NC State)
Big 12 – 3 (TCU, Baylor, Texas)
Pac-12 – 2 (Oregon, USC)
Big Ten – 2 (Ohio State, Penn State)
Non Power-5 – 2 (Western Kentucky, BYU)
Yes, still very early, but a good start for the SEC’s 2016 football recruiting classes.
