Most Bayou Bengals weren’t happy about ‘14’s ending, but the people of Baton Rouge should appreciate the fact that Southbound and Down expects Les Miles to field a competitive Tigers team this fall.

  • While most Bengal Tiger fans are talking SEC Championship, Tampa Bay should be a nice incentive for a team that went 8-5 last fall. The talk of Louisiana will be the defense, starting with the secondary. Known as ‘DB U,’ the Tigers back line should be young, talented, and hungry.

There are still questions left to be answered at the defensive end positions, but ‘14’s ninth ranked defense should be fine with new coordinator Kevin Steele of Alabama taking over the unit.

On offense, Baton Rouge is buzzing about the quarterback battle between incumbent Anthony Jennings and challenger Brandon Harris. Last season’s ineffective play at the position was one of the key problems in a failed ’14 campaign for the Bayou Bengals.

Whoever wins the battle will have a franchise running back in Leonard Fortunette and a group of young, talented receivers to wing it around to. LSU should be competitive in a tough Western Division, but quarterback play will determine if they’re ready to take the next step.
