9. Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina

Lattimore is potentially the best that never was in the SEC. His career was shortened by an injury that took him out of the game forever.

Lattimore tore his ACL in his sophomore year at South Carolina in 2011 and fought his way back to be ready in time for the 2012 season. Nine games in, Lattimore suffered another setback, a knee injury against Tennessee.

Through his shortened 29 game career, Lattimore scored 38 touchdowns and averaged 4.8 yards a carry. If he could have stayed healthy, he could have been a Heisman Trophy winner and a top draft choice.

The injuries Lattimore sustained in college deterred his football career. Lattimore announced that he would retire from the game after being drafted by the 49ers in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Lattimore was dominant, and if he didn’t have such poor fortune, could have been one of the best ever.
