Although the University of Florida’s rushing touchdowns record is held by a quarterback named Tebow, Emmitt Smith is the best running back to come out of the Swamp and is one of the best running backs to ever play the game.
Smith went on to become the NFL’s all-time leading rusher.
In his three years at UF, Smith solidified himself as one of the best to take the field in the Southeastern Conference. On the SEC all-times list, Smith ranks ninth in rushing yards (3928) and 15th in touchdowns (36).
Smith was able to continue the work that Steve Spurrier started in Gainesville and put the program on a national level. In his final season, Smith was named SEC Player of the Year, led the league in rushing yards (1599) and finished third overall for rushing yards in the NCAA.
