Nov 29, 2014; Louisville, KY, USA; Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Stoops talks with place kicker Austin MacGinnis (99) during the second half against the Louisville Cardinals at Papa John

Austin MacGinnis, Sophomore, Kentucky

After redshirting in 2013, Austin MacGinnis exploded onto the college football stage at Kentucky making the most field goals in the SEC last fall.

MacGinnis also led all NCAA freshmen kickers in field goals per game in 2014.

Throughout the course of the season, he went 21-of-27 and really stepped into the spotlight during Kentucky’s 36-30 loss to Florida in triple overtime. MacGinnis went 3-of-4 in his first SEC road challenge.

This year, MacGinnis has the chance to be the Lou Groza winner but he will have to replicate his numbers from his first full campaign and perform under extreme pressure. MacGinnis is my favorite to win this year’s Lou Groza award but he will have to outshine elite kickers who are his main competition, like the 2013 winner Roberto Aguayo.
