Nov 29, 2014; Louisville, KY, USA; Kentucky Wildcats quarterback Patrick Towles (14) adjusts the line during the second quarter against the Louisville Cardinals at Papa John

In a quarterback battle that lasted until late in August, Patrick Towles topped the highly regarded Drew Barker to be named the starting quarterback for Kentucky in 2015.  Whether that will last all season is another question.  What is certain, though, is that the Wildcats need consistent performances from the position.

This is the first time one player in particular is not being named.  Instead the position of quarterback is being listed for Kentucky.  I am not convinced Towles will remain the starter for the duration of the season.

Kentucky needs to make a bowl in 2015 to maintain the momentum Mark Stoops has been building.  In order to do that, the quarterback position must shine and outperform expectations.  Whether it is Towles or Barker does not matter.
