Georgia finally put a stop to its two-game skid with a gritty 9-6 win over the Missouri Tigers on Oct. 17. It was a huge win for the Bulldogs after getting pounded by Alabama 38-10 in Week 5 and losing a hard-fought 38-31 bout against Tennessee on Rocky Top the following week. With the victory, the Bulldogs improved to 5-2 on the season and regained second place in the SEC East standings with a 3-2 conference record.  That put them behind only the Florida Gators (4-1).

Georgia’s defensive unit can receive much of the credit for the win over Mizzou. They held the Tigers to just six first downs and 164 total yards offensively. It was such a defensive battle that neither team scored a touchdown in the contest.  This isn’t necessarily a surprise, however, considering both defenses have been solid all season.

The Bulldogs’ defense will have its hands full this Saturday, however, against a revitalized Florida offense. The Gators rank 55th nationally in scoring offense, averaging over 31 points per game this season. It’s incumbent that Georgia continues its punishing red zone defense if its to upset Florida on EverBank Field.

Additionally, it’s crucial that quarterback Greyson Lambert steps up his play against the Gators. Lambert struggled immensely against Missouri’s secondary, throwing for just 178 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. It won’t get any easier for him this week, as Florida boasts one of the strongest defenses in the SEC.  The Gators have been allowing only 197.9 passing yards per game so far (ranked 42nd nationally).

Still, the Bulldogs have fared relatively well against the Gators in recent history, winning three of the last four meetings. Can the trend continue in Georgia’s favor on Halloween night?
