Who will be Florida’s quarterback?

This is arguably the most pressing question for the boys in the orange and blue — as the three-game losing skid to close the season stemmed primarily from the offensive struggles.

Substandard quarterback play was hardly the only reason for such lackluster performances, but it was the most significant.

Treon Harris, who took over as the starting signal-caller following redshirt freshman Will Grier’s suspension in October, proved he is not the right fit for McElwain’s offensive scheme.

Harris signed with Florida when Muschamp was still in command — when the Gators were trying to run a spread offense.  He’ll be competing with transfers Luke Del Rio and Austin Appleby (a recent graduate transfer from Purdue) and true freshmen Feleipe Franks and Kyle Trask.

Whoever emerges from this crop of quarterbacks will need to develop a lot more consistency than what we’ve seen recently in both getting rid of the football quickly and delivering accurate passes downfield.

Perhaps then the Gators may be able to sustain a drive.
