SEC Basketball Power Rankings: Where We are Now
14. Missouri 8-10 (1-4)- No disrespect, but it is easy to self-impose a post season ban when your team is this bad. When your best game of the year is
a 9 point loss to South Carolina, you’re a long ways from where you want to be at this point in the season. I hate to admit I thought they were going to be so much better.
13. Mississippi State 7-10 (0-5)- It is so hard to put Mississippi State this low. Malik Newman and Coach Ben Howland were supposed to turn this team around year one. It has been a disappointing run thus far, as they are winless in conference play. The promise of what Malik Newman was supposed to be keeps Mississippi State one spot out of last place in our SEC Basketball Power Rankings.
12. Tennessee 9-9 (2-4)- Well, it’s not Kevin Punter’s fault. Punter leads the team in ppg (22.6), apg (3.8) and fg percentage (49.1%). Outside of a somewhat impressive win over Florida, Tennessee has really struggled to this point in the season.
11. Alabama 10-7 (1-4)- If they could just score the ball! Alabama sports wins over Clemson, Notre Dame, Wichita State, and a 23 point win over South Carolina. They also have a 32-point loss to Dayton and a 19-point loss to Xavier. They have the defense to slow down better teams, but ranking 280th or worse in rebounds per game, assists per game, and points scored per game lands Alabama outside of the top ten in my SEC Basketball Power Rankings.
