LSU Football: Contender or Pretender in 2016
LSU Football (Pretender)
This section won’t be long. LSU enters every season with a stable of running backs, a dominant defense and a crew future NFL receivers. The problem more often than not, however, has been an inability to have a legitimate threat in the passing game. When the passing game has at least been adequate, LSU football has competed for SEC and National Championships.
It doesn’t seem that LSU football will be competing for any championships this year, though, as Miles must have been emboldened after not getting fired following the Tiger’s 2016 campaign. Instead of making changes to his offensive staff, Miles has doubled down on his idea of what can win LSU football a championship. Les Miles was able to secure a 3 year extension for offensive coordinator Cam Cameron, who has not proven he can develop a quarterback or passing game in the college ranks. Unless Cameron suddenly became a quarterback guru in the offseason or returning struggler Brandon Harris suddenly became a legit SEC quarterback, LSU football will again fall short of their goals in 2016. You simply cannot win a championship without adequate quarterback play.
