The Bad

South Carolina

I’m not even sure it is fair to put South Carolina losing their series to Oklahoma State in the “Bad” portion of this column, but the way they were dominated has to account for something. On paper, it doesn’t look good. South Carolina had been yet another dominant SEC team that spent much of its season in the top 15. Oklahoma State is a team that performed well through out the year, but had really come on as of late and South Carolina was just another team in the way.

Despite Vegas having South Carolina the odds on favorite, it was easy to look at this series as trouble for the Gamecocks. In the Regionals, Oklahoma State led the field in team ERA and team batting average. The best pitching plus the best batting will always lead to the best chances for victory as the Cowboys made quick work of the Gamecocks. Oklahoma State swept South Carolina winning game 1 5-1 and game 2 3-1. South Carolina never led a single inning at any point in the series and they didn’t score a run in either game until the 9th inning. South Carolina fans have to feel as if they just ran into the wrong team at the wrong time, and hope for better results next year.
