SEC Football: Game Balls, Top Performers for Week Two
Special Teams: Daniel Carlson, K, Auburn
This week Carlson was out for blood. He played like a man who was prepared to go one on 11 and come out on top. He connected on all three of his field goal attempts, all six of his extra points, and scored a rushing touchdown on a fake field goal. Don’t bother adding it up. It’s 21 points. Arkansas State had 14 as a team. That’s insane.
Daniel Carlson may be the best player on the Auburn football team. And I don’t say that in a sarcastic or joking way. He’s legitimately that good. He has a big leg, and his accuracy is top-shelf. He has all the tools to be a kicker in the NFL for a very long time.
Honorable Mentions:
Tre’Davious White, DB/PR, LSU
White had a big game returning punts, as he ran one all the way to the house from 60 yards out. It was White’s third punt return touchdown of his career. That puts him at second on the school’s all-time list.
White is a great player for LSU, on both defense and special teams. He is a veteran corner who elected to come back to LSU for his senior year. After this season, he will likely be a round one selection, round two at the lowest.
Johnathon Johnson, WR/PR, Missouri
Like White, Johnson also had a punt return touchdown this week. His was from 54 yards out. On his only other return of the night he had a gain of 20 yards. That means he averaged 37 yards per return. It will be interesting to see his year-end average.
Johnson is an electric freshman. He can hurt you with his return ability as well as his receiving ability. This was apparent Saturday, as Johnson also had a team-leading 5 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown. He could potentially be a special player for Missouri if he continues to develop his game and chemistry with Drew Lock.
