SEC Football Way-Too-Early 2017-18 Hot Takes
SEC Football Coaches Who Need To Win Now
Butch Jones – Tennessee
Career Record at UT: 30-21 (14-18 SEC)
Jones has been on thin ice, whether he knows it or not, for a couple of seasons. Despite several impressive recruiting classes, the Vols haven’t been able to break through. Jones needs to prove that he can develop talent as well as he recruits it, or it will be yet another coaching change in Knoxville.
Mark Stoops – Kentucky
Career Record at UK: 19-20 (8-24 SEC)
Kentucky is paying Mark Stoops an awful lot of money ($2.4 million this year to be exact) to give Kentucky the same awful football team they saw under Rich Brooks and Joker Phillips. Stoops needs to do something amazing with this team in 2017 or the $6.6 million buyout will seem a bargain to the Wildcats.

Bret Bielema – Arkansas
Career Record at ARK: 25-26 (10-22 SEC)
It seems every season people buy into the Razorbacks as a challenger in the SEC West only to see them fumble through the season (literally and figuratively). That talk has quieted this season, and Bielema is definitely on the hot seat. A finish of 4th or lower in the SEC West (which seems likely) will bury Bielema.
Kevin Sumlin – Texas A&M
Career Record at TAMU: 44-21 (21-19 SEC)
Take away the two seasons with Johnny Manziel making magic happen in College Station, and you have Kevin Sumlin coaching three 8-5 seasons, with no season above .500 in SEC play. That’s just not going to cut it given all the money spent on stadium renovations and contract money. Sumlin needs to get the Aggies into double-digit wins this season to have some security.
