SEC Quarterbacks To Watch

Jacob Eason – Georgia

Eason was supposed to be the true freshman quarterback to watch last season, but as it turns out Jalen Hurts stole that thunder. Word was, Eason was going to lift the Bulldogs back to prominence in the SEC. Things didn’t quite work out that way (thanks in part to an awful offensive line) and Eason had more than a few struggles during the season.

This year all eyes will be on the second year QB to see if his accuracy problems and poor decision-making were more a product of young jitters, or if he’s not quite what Georgia fans hoped for when he arrived.

Danny Etling – LSU

Etling is the odds-on favorite to keep the starting quarterback job at LSU, but head coach Ed Orgeron has made it clear this will be an open competition. Etling’s biggest threat – Brandon Harris – has now left the LSU football program, so some redshirt and true freshmen ball-slingers will be competing with the junior transfer from Purdue.

Etling seemed to flourish under Orgeron, but his targets (both running backs and wide receivers) will all be learning from new coaches this season after the departures of Jabbar Juluke, LSU’s running backs coach, and wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig. This will be an interesting competition to watch.
