South Carolina Basketball: Road to NCAA Final Four

The South Carolina Gamecocks are back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004, and they’ll be playing the Marquette Golden Eagles in the opening round.

Frank Martin is in his fifth season as the South Carolina basketball coach, and the Gamecocks are making their first tournament of his tenure. Despite going 25-9 last season, South Carolina was left out of the Big Dance.
This is actually the Gamecocks’ first tournament appearance since 2004. And to find the last time South Carolina made it to the Sweet Sixteen, you have to go all the way back to the 1971, 72, and 73 seasons when Frank McGuire was the head coach.
This year’s team is led my SEC player of the year Sindarius Thornwell, who led the conference with 21.0 points per game. Thornwell was also first-team all-defense.
While it won’t be an easy road for this team to make a run to the Final Four, anything can happen come tournament time.
