Alabama football players were recently tested in what is the Crimson Tide’s own version of the NFL Combine with annual spring strength and speed tests.

Some eye popping numbers came out of the tests, with five players bench pressing 500 pounds or more. Below are some of the notable numbers.

Lets get right to it with Jalen Hurts. Throwing accuracy warts aside, the dude is a physical specimen for the QB position. He measured 6’2″ and 210 lbs and blazed his 40-yard dash at 4.48. This was ranked among the fastest on the entire team regardless of position.

Want to know how fast that is for QB? That would be the 5th fastest time ever by a QB at the NFL Combine. (Michael Vick had the fastest for a QB ever at 4.33).

Hurts benched 355, squatted 455 and had a 9’9” broad jump.

True freshman and five-star QB Tua Tagovailoa had a 40-time of 4.76.

In another testament to the fire power of the incoming freshman class, the two fastest 40-times for running backs were recorded by a pair of true freshmen.

Tuscaloosa-native Brian Robinson ran a 4.41 and measured out at 6’2” and 210 lbs.

Athlete/running back, Chadarius Townsend, was clocked at 4.46. I don’t expect him to be a running back, as he will be getting looks at WR and DB.

For wide receivers, seldomly-used Derek Kief had some of the best overall numbers with a 4.59 40 and the best vertical for receivers at 34 inches.

Calvin Ridley ran a 4.43 while true freshman Jerry Jeudy was impressive at 4.47

Miller Forristall, the top candidate to replace the departed O.J. Howard at tight end, benched 405 pounds and ran a 4.78, while weighing 240 pounds.

Three offensive lineman, Jonah Williams , Lester Cotton and Deonte Brown each bench pressed 500 pounds. Brown had one of the most impressive numbers on the team squatting 675 lbs.

Viewed as the most likely candidate to take over either left or right tackle on the offensive line, incoming JUCO tackle Elliot Baker didn’t perform that well on the 40 with a time of 6.12.

Regarded as the strongest overall player on the team, Deron Payne did nothing to hurt his reputation. He squatted 635 pounds,, benched 545, and had a team best 365-pound clean. Oh, and he also ran the 40 at 5.03 while weighing 310 pounds.

Seen as a likely early contributor on the defensive line, incoming JUCO lineman Isaiah Buggs had the second best squat numbers for a DL, with 585 pounds.

Sophomore Mack Wilson ran a very good 4.59 40-time and is on track to get significant playing time this year.

True freshman linebacker and Louisiana-native Dylan Moses put up ridiculous numbers.

He measured at 6’3” and 235 lbs. and scorched the grass with a 40 time of 4.46. The freshman LB’s 40-time was faster than all but two of Alabama’s wide receivers. Again, this is at 235 lbs.

For good measure he also squatted 500 pounds and benched 405. If and when he learns the playbook, this kid has star written all over him.
