South Carolina

The first bracket buster in this year’s tournament came when Wisconsin knocked off Villanova on Saturday. But given Wisconsin’s track record, it wasn’t the most surprising upset. They same cannot be said for South Carolina.

When the Gamecocks beat the Duke Blue Devils on Sunday, the bracket might as well have just been demolished.

The last time the Gamecocks won a tournament game was 1973, and that was before the field expanded to 64 and now 68 teams.

After shooting 20 percent from their field in the first half, South Carolina shot 71 percent from the field in the second half, outscoring Duke 65-51 in the final 20 minutes to win 88-81.

South Carolina has now outscored opponents (Marquette and Duke) 119-84 in the second half of their two NCAA Tournament games.

The Gamecocks will face the 3-seed Baylor on Friday at 7:29 EST at Madison Square Garden in New York.
