The Associated Press recent released its’ AP All-Time Top 100 and every SEC basketball team made the cut.
The ACC and Big East were the only other conferences that had each of their members make the AP-All Time Top 100 list.
According to the story, there have been over 1,100 AP polls and they started their basketball rankings in 1949 with a top 20 list. After that, they reduced it to just the top 10 from 1960 to 1968. Then in 1968-69 season they went back to ranking the top 20. And in 1989 they expanded it to the top 25, where it remains today.
This list awarded 1 point for being ranked in the AP poll and 2 points for being ranked no. 1 in the poll.
Since there is no poll following the NCAA Tournament, the criteria for the AP All-Time Top 100 was strictly based on the poll. It did not take into account teams that eventually won the national championship.
