2. Is defensive depth an issue for Florida?

Since the Zook-era, Florida has been one of the most consistent, and most dominant defenses in the country. With Florida there is no “rebuilding”, there’s only “reloading”.

This isn’t the first time Florida has lost a plethora of defensive talent, so why is this year so different?

Well the simple answer is Florida hasn’t been able to recruit defensively like they used to. While this past year they found a lot success recruiting on defense, that wasn’t the case the last two years.

This year should be a drop off year defensively, but that doesn’t mean they’ll struggle either.

Barring injuries to certain players, Florida can start the season with a player that has made at least one start in every position. But the issue is the depth on the defensive line.

Last year this team really struggled against the run the down the stretch, and that could be an issue again this year.

This defense will still be pretty good, but it’s not like the days where you can just leave your corners on an island, or have the run-stuffers like Florida is accustomed to.
