10. Kirby Smart, Georgia
If we were ranking the SEC football coaches based on recruiting, Smart would be second to only Nick Saban. But unfortunately there’s more to being a college football coach than just recruiting.
Smart’s first season in Athens was underwhelming. The Bulldogs went 8-5, which wasn’t bad, but the losses to Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech weren’t exactly encouraging. After all, they just fired a coach in Mark Richt that averaged 9-3 in his 15 seasons at Georgia.
Expect an improvement for the Bulldogs in year two of the Smart era, and the fact the he learned under Saban for nearly a decade should be a sign of better things to come.
