SEC Football: Ranking the SEC Football Coaches 14 through 8
By Matt Green
10. Kirby Smart, Georgia
If we were ranking the SEC football coaches based on recruiting, Smart would be second to only Nick Saban. But unfortunately there’s more to being a college football coach than just recruiting.
Smart’s first season in Athens was underwhelming. The Bulldogs went 8-5, which wasn’t bad, but the losses to Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech weren’t exactly encouraging. After all, they just fired a coach in Mark Richt that averaged 9-3 in his 15 seasons at Georgia.
Expect an improvement for the Bulldogs in year two of the Smart era, and the fact the he learned under Saban for nearly a decade should be a sign of better things to come.
