SEC Football: Ranking the SEC Football Coaches 14 through 8
By Matt Green
8. Jim McElwain, Florida
Never has a coach led a team to the SEC Championship game in his first two years in the conference, until McElwain. And you could argue that never has a coach led a team to consecutive SEC title game appearances and still had such a negative vibes around the program, until McElwain.
Despite Florida winning the SEC East two years in a row, McElwain and the Gators still seem like they’re headed in the wrong direction.
The Gators went 10-4 in 2015, only to lose their final three games by a combined score of 97-24. Then in 2016 they went 9-4 and were blown out by Florida State and Alabama. Florida has lost four straight in the series with Florida State by a combined score of 119-41.
The Gators have had one of the nation’s best defenses two years in a row, but the offense has been an absolute train wreck. And McElwain was supposed to be an offensive mastermind. If the offense doesn’t improve soon, Gator Nation might start wondering the famous line from the movie, Office Space, What would you say it is you do here?
