3. Gus Malzahn, Auburn

After a magical and borderline miraculous 12-2 season in 2013, the Auburn Tigers have come back to Earth. Auburn has gone 23-16 the last three years.

He came to Auburn as the “Offensive Guru” who led the offense to the 2010 national championship, but it’s becoming more and more obvious (as if it wasn’t at the time) that all that offense did was give the ball to Cam Newton and let him take over.

Things are not going well on The Plains. Auburn has plenty of talent on defense, but continues to underwhelm on that side of the ball. Malzahan’s offense seems to live-and-die depending on who they have at quarterback, and the might have another good one in Jarrett Stidham in 2017.

Auburn might have the widest range of possible in outcomes in 2017 as any team in the SEC. It wouldn’t surprise me to see them go 5-7 or 11-1. Only time will tell.
