Last year, this defense was not very good. At all. They ranked in the bottom half of the SEC and the country in yards per game, scoring, and overall efficiency.

However, the run defense was worse, letting teams run through them like a revolving door. They ranked 108th against the run, allowing 225 yards on the ground.

They have most of the starters returning, including T.J. Carter who should see more action in 2017. With teams like Kentucky, experience is the best hope for success, and hopefully there will be improvements.

Since most of the teams in the SEC are run-first teams and have a great deal of depth at running back, it is key that teams in the SEC have to stop the run.
