3. Can they be contenders?

The SEC East is nothing to be fearful of. The last few years Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee have been the three names thrown around every year to win the East.

But with Tennessee potentially falling out, it will leave that third spot open for grabs. Teams like South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and even Kentucky are three teams who seem to be moving in the right direction who can claim that third spot.

While that doesn’t actually make them contenders, it at least puts them in the conversation, if only for a minute.

After all, in 2016 Kentucky lasted longer in the race for the East crown than Georgia did.

They have a favorable schedule again this year. And while they won’t be taken seriously as an actual contender, that doesn’t mean they won’t still be in the mix heading down the stretch, like last year.
