No. 5: Florida Gators

Gators: Eight AP Top 25 Preseason Appearances. Average final rank differential, -2.63

Despite a couple of coaching changes in the last decade, the Gators have remained pretty consistent when ranked. Their biggest fall came in 2010, when Florida when from 4th to unranked by the end of the season.

That dreadful year was offset by the 2012 season, when they climbed from a preseason rank of 23 all the way to number 9 at year end.

With Jim McElwain leading the mighty Gators to two straight SEC East crowns, we may see the overrating number inflate a bit in coming years, depending on how much faith the voters have in a squad who can’t score but plays defense like madmen.

All in all, the Florida faithful shouldn’t be bothered by any chants of “o-ver-ra-ted!”
