SEC Football: Most overrated programs of last 10 years
No. 3: LSU Tigers
Tigers: Ten AP Top 25 Preseason Appearances. Average final rank differential, -4.10
LSU is one of only two SEC teams to be ranked in the preseason every year in the last ten, so the opportunity for overranking was more ample, but even so, there were a good many years the Tigers didn’t even come close to the preseason expectation.
In fact, of the 10 years they were in the preseason poll, LSU only finished the same rank or higher three times.
The biggest tumble for the Tigers came in 2008, when they took a No. 7 preseason ranking, and bumbled their way to an 8-5 season without a ranking at all.
Perhaps the consistent overrating of this team contributed to Les Miles being exited out of Baton Rouge. One thing is certain, new permanent head coach Ed Orgeron has his work cut out for him in pleasing both the voters and the fans in Death Valley.
