SEC Football: Most overrated programs of last 10 years
No. 1: Georgia Bulldogs
Bulldogs: Ten AP Top 25 Preseason Appearances. Average final rank differential, -5.90
It’s certain with all Georgia fans have gone through in the last 10 years, this is the last thing they wanted to see…but the numbers don’t lie.
Of 10 appearances in the preseason top 25 since 2007, Georgia has only managed to hold serve or better four times, and they’ve suffered four double-digit falls in rankings from preseason to end of year.
When people ask “Why is Georgia always so highly regarded?”, this is precisely why they are asking.
It hasn’t been all bad for the Dawgs. In 2007 they moved up 11 spots from No. 13 to No. 2, but it was the following season when they were saddled with a No. 1 preseason rank and finished at No. 13 that some of the overrating of the Dawgs began.

Georgia fans can take comfort in the fact that Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs probably won’t have a spot in the preseason rankings this year, and if they do, there’s likely nowhere to go but up.
