No. 5: Auburn Tigers

Song Title: War Eagle

The Auburn fight song is one of the more fun tunes to listen to just as a well-written piece of music. The oft-modulating introduction will perk one’s ears up before the actual song gets underway.

The tune is quite interesting, with effective use of space between the notes as well as the notes themselves. The accents on certain beats perfectly lend themselves to pom-pom shaking in the stands, and the chord structures are fairly complex, giving the song some rich harmonies.

Where Auburn loses points is in the words sung to this nicely arranged tune. The song title – war eagle – is repeated three times in what is a very short tune, with a tedious “go go go” in the middle. The lyric finale of “Power of Dixieland” probably makes more than a few people cringe.
