Song Title: Fight for LSU

While the common circus march fanfare to open this song seems a bit on the corny side, it leads into a zippy tune which makes you want to raise your arms above your head and clap.

There’s a great handoff of the primary melody between the upper and lower brass from verse to verse, with an uncomplicated counter-melody that gives the song a lot of oomph.

The lyrics are also a winner, with mentions of knights, school colors, mascots and the school name. Subtract a few points for the ubiquitous repeated word (fight fight fight in this case), but it doesn’t damage the song entirely.

LSU also commonly uses Tiger Rag and Hey Fighting Tiger as celebration songs, but they’ve never taken over for this original fight song written in the 1940s by Castro Carazo.
