No. 1: Texas A&M Aggies

Song Title: The Aggie War Hymn

Let’s start with the title – “War Hymn”.  You mention war in your fight song title, and you get an immediate bump up the list. From there, it just gets better with this fight song.

The Texas A&M yell leader begins with a shout of “Hullabaloo…” leading right into a typical TAMU marching band trumpet fanfare, joined shortly in unison by the middle horns and low brass. Then you have a triplet pickup into the actual tune, of which the tempo and melody quite resemble British march composer Kenneth J. Alford’s style.

This is an outstanding fight song with lyrics that – beyond being fun to sing – also have special meaning to the Texas A&M students and alumni. If you aren’t an Aggie, I doubt you’ll know what such words as “Chigaroogarem” mean (if there’s any meaning at all).

The lyrics even mention “The eyes of Texas are upon you” giving it an even more poignant meaning. This is a fight song done right from top to bottom.
