No. 12: Kentucky Wildcats

Song Title: On, On, U of K

For a state as rich in musical tradition as Kentucky, we should expect a lot more from the school’s fight song. Unfortunately, we are subjected to something which sounds like it was pulled from a WWI newsreel (which makes sense, since this little ditty was written in the 1920s).

The words are as uninspiring as the bland melody, with a repeated “fight, fight, fight” in the middle of the verse.

If schools can change uniforms, mascots, and conferences, then making a switch from an outdated and uninspiring fight song should be allowed as well. Kentucky would do well to take the lead in that battle.
