No. 9: Tennessee Volunteers

Song Title: Rocky Top

We’ll make this short at sweet, Vols.

We congratulate you for not wanting to cling to an outdated song to bring fans to their feet during games. However, simply commandeering a copyrighted bluegrass tune and using it for your “fight song” is not only unimaginative, but borderline criminal.

The official Tennessee fight song is actually called Down the Field, and if you listen to this recording, you’ll understand why they opted to go with something else in the 1970s.

Sounds like a bicycler peddling uphill with the chain hanging off.
