No. 7: Georgia Bulldogs

Song Title: Glory, Glory!

In Georgia we have another school where the “official” fight song has been pushed down by something else. We’d find the Bulldogs higher on this list were it not for a complete lack of originality in both the music and the lyrics.

Hail to Georgia – the school’s official fight song – is played in the stands at games from time to time, but it’s the freight train speed version of the Battle Hymn of the Republic (otherwise known as Glory, Glory to Georgia fans) which has become more recognized.

While using a hymn song which was actually a Civil War battle tune played in defeat of the state in question may seem contradictory, few alumni and fans recognize the irony.

A plus – there may not be a more simple to remember fight song in all the nation.

“Glory, Glory to old Georgia” repeated three times, followed by the spelling out of the word Georgia one letter at a time. Something even UGA grads can’t mess up. In truth, the words and music to Hail to Georgia are better, but checkers sells more than chess.
