SEC Football: Predicting every SEC team’s record for the 2017 season
By Matt Green
Mississippi State
6-6 (2-6)
The Mississippi State Bulldogs will only go as far as Nick Fitzgerald can take them in 2017. Fitzgerald led the SEC with 16 rushing touchdowns last season and was second in the conference with 1,375 rushing yards, but what can he do as a passer? Last season he threw for 2,423 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while completing 54.3 percent of his passes.
Mississippi State went 6-7 after beating Miami (Ohio) in the St. Petersburg Bowl, but a lot of people are picking them as a sleeper in the SEC West.
I think they’ll sneak up and get a win over LSU early in the season, but I see the Bulldogs losing all of their conference road games this season, which includes Georgia, Auburn, Texas A&M, and Arkansas. I also see them losing to Kentucky for the second consecutive season.
