South Carolina is a contender in the SEC East

The Battle of Columbia was played on Saturday and the Gamecocks went on the road and beat Missouri 31-13. Missouri had one of the best offenses in the SEC last season, and brought 10 starters back. While they did rack up 423 yards of total offense, three turnovers cost them the game.

Let’s not make too much of one win, after all, Missouri did go 4-8 last season, but trust the eye test. South Carolina is legit. I’m not saying they’re going to the College Football Playoff, but they look like a solid football team, and that’s something you couldn’t say a year ago.

Jake Bentley went 18-for-28 for 187 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions. The Gamecocks also have arguably the most dynamic player in the SEC in Deebo Samuel, and they made a point to get him the ball. He had five receptions for 45 yards, one carry for a 25-yard touchdown, and a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Gamecocks host Kentucky next week.
