Missouri is going to struggle to stop anybody this season

Most SEC football fans heard about Missouri’s performance in the opening week of the college football season. And when you play Missouri State in the opening week of the season, no news is good news. You want people to not even hear about that game, then look up the score and see that you won by four touchdowns.

That’s not what happened. Missouri allowed 492 yards of total offense in their 72-43 win over Missouri State. They gave up 35 points in the first half. But it was just one game and maybe they didn’t get up for an FCS opponent, so I gave them a pass and wanted to see them in Week 2.

On Saturday they gave up 359 yards to a well-balanced South Carolina offensive attack in their 31-13 loss. Missouri has already fired defensive coordinator DeMontie Cross after just two games, and I don’t see the defense getting better any time soon. They may still have the most explosive offense in the SEC, but in the SEC you won’t win without a viable defense.
