SEC Football: What we learned from Week 2 of the college football season

The Jarrett Stidham Heisman talk is officially over
I said earlier this offseason that the Jarrett Stidham hype felt eerily similar to the Jeremy Johnson hype of 2015, and while I’m not saying he’s going to be as bad as Johnson was, that is starting to come to fruition.
Through two weeks of the season, Stidham has gone 27-for-48 (56.3 percent) for 247 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. That’s not terrible, but it’s not in the same stratosphere as Heisman Trophy numbers. It doesn’t help matters that Auburn has allowed 14 sacks, which is the most in the entire country. Clemson sacked Stidham 11 times on Saturday and limited him to just 79 passing yards.
Stidham could easily improve from this point forward, but the Heimsan talk was ridiculous. After Cam Newton, people just expect every new Auburn quarterback to come in and win the Heisman and lead the Tigers to a national title, and that’s just not the reality. The reality is Gus Malzahn’s seat is warming up and if Stidham doesn’t improve quickly, Malzahn might not be around to see the rest of his career on The Plains.
