SEC Football: Three SEC teams could still have College Football Playoff hopes
By Abbey Giese
Alabama (10-0, 7-0 SEC)
Right now, Alabama, probably has the best chance of earning the SEC spot in the College Football Playoff. This would be the fourth straight season for the Crimson Tide to represent the conference in the playoff.
Alabama has FCS opponent Mercer and Auburn left on their schedule. If the Crimson Tide defeats Auburn, they will win the SEC West and play Georgia for the SEC championship. If Alabama remains undefeated and wins the SEC championship game, they will most likely be No. 1 heading into the playoff. However, this probably will not be quite as easy for the Crimson Tide as it has been in recent seasons.
Auburn’s defense allowed just 46 rushing yards against Georgia who was averaging 279.3 yards going into the game. Like Georgia, Alabama also heavily relies on their running game. If the Auburn defense can shut down Bo Scarborough and Damien Harris like they did with Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, the Crimson Tide will have to put up as much of if not more of a fight with Auburn as they did with Mississippi State on Saturday.
However, Alabama is favored to win over Auburn, and they will be even more ready for the Tigers after surviving their tough road test against Mississippi State.
