No. 4: Alabama vs. Missouri 2014
When the Missouri Tigers clinched the SEC East in 2014 with a win over Arkansas in their last game of the regular season, fans declared they wanted Bama. They got everything they wanted, and then some when the No.1 Crimson Tide defeated the Tigers 42-13.
No. 16 Missouri was held to just 41 rushing yards, while the Crimson Tide rushed for 242 yards. Alabama running back Derrick Henry, who would go on to win the Heisman in the following season, had over 100 yards and two touchdowns.
After scoring a touchdown and a field goal in the third quarter, Missouri was able to make it a one-possession game heading into the fourth quarter. But the Crimson Tide’s fourth-quarter offense was too explosive for the run-down Tigers. Alabama scored 21 points in the final 15 minutes of the game. The Crimson Tide’s performance in the conference title game helped them to finish in the top four of the College Football Playoff committee’s final rankings.
The 2014 SEC Championship Game was a little more exciting than 2016 with Missouri keeping it close in the third quarter. But overall, it was a dominant Alabama team up against an extremely under-matched opponent. That year in the Georgia Dome, Tigers fans quickly found out what happens when you actually do get Bama.
