Jake Fromm headlines SEC football all-freshman team
SEC football coaches named four Georgia and Missouri freshman to the 2017 All-SEC Freshman Team. Jake Fromm added another line to a resume which begins, “backup quarterback.”
After Missouri placed an SEC football leading four players on the 2016 Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Football Team, it led the league again in 2017.
Finishing with its best record since the 2014 season, the Tigers placed four freshman on the 2017 All-Freshman squad, combining to claim five spots . Larry Rountree III of Missouri was named by SEC coaches as both an All-Freshman return specialist and the All-Freshman all-purpose athlete. Missouri.
Georgia Dominates Offense
SEC champion Georgia placed four on the All-Freshman team, all on offense. Jake Fromm came off the bench for injured starter Jacob Eason to become the SEC Freshman of the year. He is joined in the All-Freshman backfield by teammate D’Andre Swift.
Remarkably, Fromm and Swift excelled with two freshman blocking on the offensive line, and Georgia offensive lineman Andrew Thomas and Solomon Kindley took All-Freshman honors.
While Georgia dominated the offensive side of the the ball, no school placed more than two defensive players on the All-Freshman team. The coaches named Auburn defensive linemen Nick Cole and Big Kat Bryant along with Florida defensive backs CJ Henderson and Marco Wilson to the team.
LSU also landed four players on the All-Freshman team, and Florida three.
